Lucknow’s Marsh and Pooran Extend Dominant IPL Start with Power Show vs KKR

Bengaluru – Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran continued their red-hot form in IPL 2025, leading the Lucknow Super Giants to a thrilling four-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Tuesday. The dynamic duo not only anchored Lucknow’s batting innings but also claimed the top two spots in the tournament’s run-scoring charts.

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh smashed 81 off 48 deliveries, marking his fourth half-century in five matches, while West Indies powerhouse Nicholas Pooran played a blinding knock of 87 off just 36 balls*, laced with eight sixes and seven fours. Their efforts helped LSG post a mammoth 238/3 — one of the highest team totals of the season.

Marsh and Pooran added a crucial 71-run partnership, dismantling KKR’s bowling attack and setting the stage for a thrilling finish. With the ball, Lucknow held their nerve in the final overs to edge past the defending champions by just four runs in a high-scoring contest.

Marsh, who now has 265 runs in the tournament, is enjoying his best IPL season since making his debut in 2010. Meanwhile, Pooran surged to the top of the batting leaderboard with 288 runs, making him the current Orange Cap holder.

Speaking after the match, Pooran praised his teammate Marsh for his composure and ability to play proper cricketing shots under pressure.

“The incredible thing about Mitch is he plays cricketing shots,” said Pooran.
“If you bowl full, he’ll hit you over your head. If you go short, he’ll send it for six. Even against a good ball, he finds a way to rotate strike. He takes the pressure off, and it’s really nice batting with a guy like that.”

Pooran continued the assault after Marsh's dismissal in the 16th over, finishing unbeaten and taking LSG’s total to a commanding height. His explosive knock once again highlighted his status as one of the most dangerous finishers in the league.

Marsh, in turn, returned the compliments, calling Pooran "an incredible talent" and a smart, thinking cricketer.

“He hits a lot of sixes, yes, but he’s also a proper batsman. He’s got great awareness, and he’s awesome to bat with,” Marsh said.
“I’ve played against him a lot, but now batting with him has been a real pleasure.”

With this win, Lucknow Super Giants climb to fifth on the IPL 2025 points table, boasting three wins from five games, while Kolkata Knight Riders slip just below them with an identical win-loss record but a lower net run rate.

As the tournament progresses, LSG’s batting duo will look to maintain their explosive form and push the team further up the standings. If Marsh and Pooran keep firing like this, Lucknow could well emerge as one of the dark horses of the season.
